You see your kids on the internet and you want to protect them. There are 3 tips I can think of to help you achieve that goal, a very important goal!

The dangers on the internet have been a hot topic for years but little has succeeded to decrease the dangers present.  In fact, the dangers on the net have increased dramatically.

It is like a huge buffet of devilish treats.

You have pornography everywhere (1.8 Billion Websites).

You have pedophiles and predators surfing the net with your kids (5 Million 24/7).

You have over 33% of our kids on the net being subjected to cyber bullying.

It is enough to make a parent break out in a panic attack every time their kid goes online.

Sure, you can go the easy route and just have computer services disconnected.  However there are enormous benefits to having internet service for your student and for yourself as well.

So there has to be a way of enjoying the benefits of the World Wide Web and minimize the dangers.

Here are a few suggestions:

Place That Computer In An Open Area

When your children are young there is no reason for them to be online behind closed doors.  Have the computer in an open family area where their actions on the internet can be easily monitored (and they are less likely to go places on the net you have told them were off limits).

Even when they get older there is no reason for them to close the door when online unless they are trying to hide something from you.  I know that teens love their privacy.  When my teenagers told me they needed their privacy I would counter that I needed their safety.  We learned to compromise and negotiate.

Give Your Children Time Limits

The internet can be educational.  The internet can be entertaining.  However, if used excessively it can be addictive and unhealthy, especially for our youth.  Is there any reason not to limit their internet access?

When a child goes online and knows there is a time limitation they will use that time with a more focused approach.  When they are idly surfing the net to kill time with no limitations they will sooner or later encounter some of the dangers on the internet mentioned earlier.
