Functional and Versatile Office Furniture
Selecting office furniture that is both functional and versatile can be a challenge for new business owners. The office may be in a location that will serve the business for several years and the furniture will be a permanent part of the office decor.
When selecting office furniture it is important that is meet the needs of both the office and the staff who will use the furniture. If furniture is chosen that does not fit the requirements of staff an individual may find that it must be replaced very soon after purchase.
Choosing versatile office furniture includes desks that are the correct height for the users. Desks come in standard sizes that vary from twenty six inches to thirty two inches in height. When selecting a wooden desk, one wants to make sure that the height of the desk fits the ergonomic needs of the user. When furniture is being chosen for staff who may be replaced at some time it is wise to get furniture that has manual adjustment capability.
There are office desks made from many different materials that have manual height adjustments. Many wooden desks are now made with desktops that can be adjusted manually and lower into the frame of the desk. Contemporary desks have adjustable legs that raise and lower the surface of the desk to meet the needs of the user. Computer stations also often have adjustable surfaces. In most cases the furniture is made so that the tray on which the computer rests can be raised and lowered as desired.
Choosing ergonomic chairs is a wise investment. Proper seating reduces injury and maintains productivity significantly. Chairs that are contoured for the user and have adjustable heights provide the support that a person who is sitting for most of the day needs. In addition, having an adjustable back will support the back and neck of the user.
Proper lumbar support often means that the chair will have a curve in the back at the lumbar region. Some manufacturers make this area adjustable. Many chairs are now designed in a butterfly pattern which provides a gap in the spinal area. These chairs support the back around the spine, but do not put pressure directly on an individuals back.
Adjustable armrests are key when a person is typing all day. Many chairs are made with the capability for adjustment of height, back, and lumbar region. However in many cases an individual will have to specifically request chairs with adjustable armrests. Armrests that are the proper height allow a typist to receive the support necessary on their arms to relieve pressure on their hands and wrists.
Office furniture includes keyboard trays. When one is purchasing a desk it may have a keyboard tray built in to the desk. If it does not there are keyboard trays made that can be installed on the furniture easily.
