Beginner chords are usually three notes played together and are referred to as triads. Most lessons will begin with major triads and move on in level of difficulty to minor triads, and eventually chords with four scale tones.
6. Rests: As a beginner, you will need to learn how to recognize each type of rest and its corresponding note value.
7. Sharps and Flats: Recognizing sharps and flats, understanding half step (semi tones) and whole steps (whole tones), and knowing what this means in relation to fingering is important for reading and playing music correctly.
8. Key Signatures: As a new musician, you will need to have an understanding of key signatures in order to determine in which key a piece of music is to be played. A key signature is a series of sharps or flats that, together with the clef, indicate the key as well as which notes throughout a piece will be sharp, flat, or natural.
